What we are calling for

A coherent set of bold and ambitious EV policies to help London go further, faster, fairer.

MAINTAIN CITY-LEVEL INCENTIVES BY EXTENDING THE CLEANER VEHICLE DISCOUNT.

ENSURE EQUAL ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE CHARGING BY ENHANCING ACCESS TO HOME CHARGING RATES AND PLUGGING THE INFRASTRUCTURE GAP.

MAKE EVs AFFORDABLE FOR ALL BY UNLOCKING ACCESS TO EVs FOR LOWER INCOME DRIVERS AND KEY WORKERS.

ABOUT US

Who we are

Electric London is a coalition of businesses and organisations from across the electric vehicle (EV) value chain. We are made up of EV manufacturers, charge point operators, logistics and freight companies, private hire vehicle companies, vehicle rental organisations, campaign groups and business groups.

We are all leading partners in the delivery of London’s laudable EV ambitions.

We work closely with stakeholders across government, industry, and civil society to continue driving confidence in EV uptake and make EVs the right choice for all.

Why London?

London has always been a pioneer in transport innovation – trains, buses, tubes, and ticketless travel have all come to London early. The transition to EVs is no different.

London currently leads the way on EV adoption thanks to the city’s bold targets to be net zero by 2030 and achieve full transport decarbonisation by 2050.

London currently sets the pace, but our progress is now at risk of slowing or even reversing. While more than a third of new cars being registered in the city are now electric, only 3% of vans are electric. Additionally, around 30% of private hire vehicles – which represent some of the highest mileage drivers in the city – have gone electric but there’s still much further to go.

Maintaining London’s leadership requires the right policies and strong backing. If we get this right, London can set the example for cities across the UK and globally.

A CLEANER CITY THANKS TO SMART POLICIES

City policy must remain bold and ambitious to maintain momentum and protect clean air goals.

30% of the UK’s public electric vehicle charging points are hosted in London, yet over 50% of Londoners can't charge at home.

51% of private-hire journeys in central London are now electric, up from just 20% in 2021 – due to city-wide incentives.

61% of London’s drivers either own or are considering buying an electric vehicle – compared to a national average of 38%.

93% Of the air-quality benefits of the CVD are felt outside of central London.

By backing smart policy incentives we are helping deliver a healthier, greener city for everyone.

Currently, if you drive an EV, you do not have to pay a penny to enter London’s Congestion Charge Zone – this is known as the Cleaner Vehicle Discount. However, from Christmas Day 2025, this is due to change.

Current Transport for London proposals to change this will see EV drivers and businesses pay up to £13.50 a day to enter the zone.

This means thousands of London households, businesses and fleets who have invested in going electric and need to make regular journeys into central London could face new bills of up to £3,000 per year.

Removing the CVD could also drive an 8% increase in particulate emissions and an 11% increase in nitrogen oxides in central London as drivers switch back to Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles.

London can’t afford to reverse its clean-air gains. Extending the CVD beyond 2025 will maintain EV momentum, protect air quality improvements, and ensure the city remains a global leader in clean transport.
